Something that has really bugged me about season two is Jinx's hallucinations and PTSD. It magically disappears when Silco dies, save for two scenes. I remember when people on reddit were literally making jokes about the writers going this route because it would be so stupid.

One of the things I loved about season one was the realistic depictions of mental illness that you just don't see often in media. I don't know what it is like to experience schizophrenia, but I have experienced PTSD and paranoia, and seeing how it was represented in Arcane was actually one of the things that helped me through it.

And then season 2 comes around and they just completely neglect this side of Jinx.

PTSD isn't a switch that can magically be flipped off. Recovery is a slow and gradual process. In absolutely no world would Jinx killing yet another family member cure her of her conditions, it would make them 10 times worse. Not to mention just before killing him she has an extremely severe psychotic episode, which would only make forgetting her trauma even more difficult since it was just brought up fresh in her mind.

And what even about the end of s1 was it that healed her? I genuinely have no idea, because she finally chooses Jinx only to once again go back and forth between Jinx and Powder in season two, because apparently all that buildup for her final decision was for nothing.

She does experience two hallucinations (I'm not going to count the jail silco thing in act three because what even was that?) when she sees enforcer Vi and when Sevika talks about the attack at Vander's statue, but suddenly that is all that triggers her?

In season one, just seeing Vi, or even someone who looks like Vi triggers her. But now when Vi is literally trying to capture and possibly kill her she is fine, it's only the mask that bothers her? Wasn't that her worst fear, that Silco and Sevika were right, that Vi only wanted to stop her? And she is constantly triggered by Cait in season 1 but not 2?

And then there was the insulting ending, where jail Silco tells Jinx to 'break the cycle' (something he would absolutely never do) and Jinx finally finds redemption by literally killing herself after Isha kills herself in what is framed as an act of heroism (and if Jinx actually didnt, than what even was the point of that scene?) What happened to Ekko trying to stop Jinx from doing that? What happened to Silco having Singed revive her to save her life after she attempts to take it? Or Jayce and Viktor talking each other out of it? Or Silco choosing to keep fighting rather than give into the "peace in water"?

On purpose or not season 2 frames suicide as a glorious, edgy, perhaps even necessary thing and it's disgusting.

I hate Act III, sorry. All the second season was too rushed and some characters that didn't deserve a happy ending got it, and those who have been suffering got the worst ending.

Acts I and II were good, but III is the worst.

No one cares but here's a list of the things I hated:

Too rushed, I think we needed another season BEFORE this one

WTF Caitvi sex scene IN JINX'S CELL, RIGHT AFTER SHE LEFT. That's so disrespectful and stupid, Vi wasn't in the right state of mind, as much as I love Caitvi, putting that scene there was a mistake

I'm sorry but I also hate Timebomb (I'm a Lightcannon shipper, which is funny because Lux doesn't even show up in Arcane, but one can dream though fanarts)

Jinx surrendering (why we didn't even get a flashback scene?) and being imprisoned like a dog. Yet the enforcers were never punished

Vi not listening to Jinx telling her MULTIPLE TIMES to get out of there, and because of her, Jinx sacrifices herself (yes, I know she's most likely alive. But that brings my next point:)

Jinx not getting a happy ending at all. She lost everyone, right when she was about to get rehabilitated, Isha dies right in front of her. And we didn't get any Sevika dialogue with her, not even trying to save Jinx (Sevika surely didn't know, but at least a scene where she looks for Isha and Jinx???)

The final scene where Vi is only seen with Caitlyn. Yes, I knew they'd end up together and they deserve it, but what about everything that happened? Losing all her family? Learning to fight just to lose everything and everyone? Ekko not talking to Vi at all after the war? Vi not mourning Jinx?

Why make Jayce and Mel be together if they were going to forget about it and act like it didn't happen? (I prefer Jayvik, but that's another story)

Jinx saving Caitlyn, but apparently that didn't matter at all. Jinx killed her mother, yes. But enforcers killed countless of people, including Jinx and Vi's parents. Even if Jinx surrendered, why put her in that isolated jail? That was Caitlyn's grief acting

Honestly I don't know why Isha had to sacrifice herself, I feel it was too unnecessary, just to traumatize Jinx even more and kill Warwick again.

I wanted to see more of Vi, of her life in prison and before their parents died (besides Vander's memories). But they put too much focus on Caitlyn and the Caitvi. As if Vi's entire character is being Cait's girlfriend

Caitlyn (and every enforcer) didn't get punish at all for their crimes. Caitlyn became a dictator because Jinx killed her mother, but countless of children saw their own parents be murdered in front of them, and now they're the bad guys for attacking back? Mind you, at least Jinx aimed her weapon to the Council, the people who oppressed them. But Piltover kills civilians like nothing, putting CHILDREN in jail. At the end, they end up like the good guys, giving Zaun a seat in the Council. When they should have fought for it, making Piltover pay for everything they've done. Which brings my next two points:

Zaun is never set free, it's still part of Piltover

Following the previous point: Caitlyn becomes a dictator, Viktor a cult god who almost destroys the world. But Jinx is so unredeemable???

Vi accepting Cait immediately, as if act I didn't happen. I understand they wanted to make Caitvi canon, but it was too rushed.

The 'good timeline' being like that because Vi died???? WTF the enforcers wanted a name, ANYONE to put the blame on, so the Council could 'make an example'. And now suddenly everything is okay? The abuse from Piltover is gone? But even if that were true, it's sad it would take Vi's death so peace could exist

Cait put Jinx, a traumatized, suicidal and schizophrenic girl in an ISOLATED CELL.

In a more relaxed note, I hate the design of Powder in the other timeline. I have to admit I absolutely love Jinx's design, with her bang and long braids but damn I expected a Powder with a single braid and a better sense of fashion xd

I understand Ambessa was behind everything, she was using Caitlyn recent grief to manipulate her. But she never apologized, her actions can't be erased, she said it herself.

Jinx giving 'her blessing' to Vi to be with Cait. Jinx has been feeling replaced by Cait since season 1 and right when we thought they could resolve this (before Act III), they do this. If anything, they confirm Cait replaced Jinx and that Jinx had every reason to feel like that

Jinx sacrificing herself (yeah, we know she isn't truly dead, but I'm talking about the symbolism) WASN'T REDEMPTION. IT WAS SUICIDE, A TRAGEDY. Just a few hours ago Jinx tried to kill herself five times, she just saw an opportunity to do it again and not making Vi fight for her, because Jinx feels she doesn't deserve Vi. It wasn't heroic, it was a suicide

Singed getting his happy ending. HIM, OF ALL PEOPLE. He created the Shimmer, made it a drug and created addicts in Zaun just so he could keep experimenting. Dude, I get it, you want your daughter back, but at that point you should've just accepted she's gone. Vander is gone, Vi and Ekko are left alone (which brings my next point), Jinx killed herself, Jayce spent days, weeks or months alone in an apocalyptic world, Zaun is still under Piltover's power...And HE gets his happy ending? No consequences? No punishment for experimenting on dead bodies/potentially having killed them, for being in Ambessa's side????

Following point 7, why Vi is only seen with Cait at the end? Ekko is truly alone now, and Vi only has the enforcer who betrayed her and never apologized for her actions with her and Zaun. I get it, they wanted to please Caitvi's shippers, but shipping is not the only thing here (which why I hated Timebomb in the alternate timeline)

arcane season 2 oversimplified pros and cons

PROS:

-Caitlyn villain arc (so sue me).

-EMO VI (ik she was depressed guys but she was hot and i love her and also she deserves to crash out after all the shit she's been through, so--)

-Jinx/Isha/Sevika being the cutest little found family the entire damn show.

-At first I thought that the vi-jinx fight was too early in the season, but it ended up really working out and yk what it ATE. My sister and I have had the same fight over the tv remote.

-Sevika's gambling arm is sooo jinx I love it.

-THE SOUNDTRACK HELLO???

-Warwick/Vander recognizing his daughters!!!!

Arcane Season 2 Act 2

Maddie's feelings for Caitlyn are completely one-sided. Cait clearly has no feelings for her.

Isha came into Jinx's life for a reason. She needed someone to help her heal the wounds from her past. The two of them genuinely care for each other too. (and I love how Isha is mute)

And I honestly think Vander coming back was the reason Vi and Jinx were able to work together again. Once Vi realized that Jinx wasn't lying they were able to put their differences aside for their father

The background of Vi and Jinx's mom was a really cool detail. It looked like Vi and Jinx had a really awesome childhood before their mom died.

I'm not sure what is going on with Jayce. Did Salo save him? What about Ekko and Heimerdinger?

I honestly think what happened to Viktor is good. He's like half-dead but is using his powers for good after what he did to the other guy in Act 1

And Ambessa is 100% manipulating Caitlyn. She's using her for her own good and her intentions for Piltover are not good. I'm glad she was able to see that and she was able to have Vi's help. And of course Ambessa was manipulating Vi too.

And Isha's sacrifice. I'm pretty sure she's dead. I hope her sacrifice won't be in vein

On Jinx and Vi

Nothing better than discovering that your dad is actually not dead but a literal fucking beast and now you have to talk to your sister who turned emo/crazy to save him.

+ Silco and Vander were besties.

I'm happy to see the new relationship between these two after all. So much to apologise and so much to say, and also trying to save the country. I just hope they have small sister fights constantly.

On Caitlyn

I must admit I didn't see Cait coming because I thought she just turned evil but turns out people are complex beings and Cait is not Ambessa.

"Caitlyn is not distracted" that's such a hard line from Vi. She was so distracted by Ambessa but she's right back on track. I love seeing THE lesbians back. Now, they have a lot to talk about and mostly with Jinx, because that sister-in-law relationship is, well, it's definitely a relationship.

On Isha

Wow. I don't even know how to feel because WOW. She was one of the strongest characters I've seen. She loved these people, who by the way she (more or less) just met and she sacrificed her entire life for them and many more. THAT'S strong. I'm gonna miss her and I'm sure Jinx is NOT letting this slide.

On Jayce and Viktor

Jayce is so absolutely traumatised he went insane and I'm just hoping Viktor didn't actually die because I will start killing people, but I'm not mad at him. Mostly I want to see how he turns out. Of course he didn't want to kill him but he did what he thought was okay.

I think the final speech Viktor gave was absolutely amazing. Again, the complexity of the characters is something I had definitely never seen before (although I haven't consumed as much media as I would like to), and how the writers were able to build everything has me crying.

My prediction is that Jayne will be suffering quite a lot and think about Viktor nonstop. The thing is (coming from my own sadness) I think Viktor is not dead, but his body is. He transcended human nature and will be talking to Jayce, maybe through whatever the hammer has going on. My boy Jayce has it BAD.

I want at least a hug and Jayce bawling his eyes out. Ugly crying. Snot, tears and drool all over his face apologising to Viktor and not knowing what to do. And then they both smooch in the weird arcane realm they're in. *figurines clicking together sounds*

Now for real, I would love it if Viktor got into his mind when he sleeps of whatever and talks to him. Maybe he explains what he's seen and Jayce and him fight over what to do, because they have extremely different views on Hextech. That will be a good fight to see.

On Ekko and Mel

Oh god what is going on. For real what are they putting my girl and my boy through. Someone help these people.

Like, Jayce got out but where the fuck are Ekko and Heimendinger? And Mel is just lost in the weirdest realm ever, even worse than whatever Viktor has going on. All of this will be cleared out in the next episodes but damn. There's A LOT to clear out.

My thoughts

I must admit I didn't do a rewatch and that's leaving me with a few questions, but I'll probably watch it all over again and see the full show at its finest.

I will say that in the series that I watch I usually pick favourites. If they're not on screen I lose interest, but this show has me on a chokehold. Every one of these characters are so important and so interesting, and I think that's what makes a show good.

Beautiful writing, beautiful storytelling, beautiful art, beautiful pace. I just love it. As an amateur writer I love seeing this, it's such an inspiration to continue. It's so hard to watch knowing my favs will be going through hell but as a writer it's amazing to see how well the writers built that hell. So to conclude:

The girls are all against Ambessa, me and my besties overthrowing the government.

Jayce and Viktor having yet ANOTHER boyfriend fight, biblical edition.

Mel and Ekko are having the worst weed paranoia ever seen, now with magic.

The whole country is collapsing and these stupid bitches have to save it with the power of friendship and gayness, and I'm here for it.

I'm really really curious how arcane is going to end considering the cycle of violence portrayed. if isha dies, jinx will lose it again and probably take more lives. if jinx dies, isha might become a new jinx. if vi dies, it will only further enrage jinx and caitlyn. what i see- and hope- for what's coming, is that the cycle of violence is finally broken. maybe caitlyn realizes how much isha is relying on jinx, and recognizes how this story has been told over and over again. parents sacrificing themselves for their children and creating angry revenge-seeking children. the cycle would never end. maybe she will recognize this and spare jinx. maybe it will be jinx who has the upper hand and spares caitlyn, recognizing that it would only infuriate piltover, causing piltover to kill more undercity citizens, continuing the cycle of violence. maybe it will be vi who- for the first time in her life- decides punching isn't the answer, and refuses violence all together. ekko and heimerdinger are advocating for peace, viktor is healing the sick, but ultimately, whether or not the cycle continues completely relies on vi, cait, jinx, and isha.

i honestly have no clue how this is going to go. arcane continuously shocks me and i have never been able to predict what's coming next. but however it ends will determine the theme of the entire show. it may even change everything about this story with just one single decision. whether this is a story about breaking cycles of violence, or a warning about humanities inability to do so.

but here's the thing- we've seen the breaking of the cycle. bits of it coming through. the pivotal fight at the end of act 1, s2, was supposed to be full of blood. people were supposed to die, thats how everyone planned it. but everyone got out alive. jinx making the decision to let herself die, vi protecting jinx and isha. but most importantly, isha protecting jinx was an extremely crucial moment in for this entire narrative, and in determining the future if these characters. deciding to protect jinx was everything. it was a display of mercy, of kindness, of love, of sacrifice. it wasn't done out of hatred or revenge, but childish ambition. for just a moment, it brought out powder in jinx, it brought out the child in her. its the cycle of mercy breaking the violence.

season 2 has so far been about the reversion of all of the main characters. vi reverting to her prison self by staying in a tiny room with bars on the windows and fighting and drinking her life away in a miserable daze. caitlyn reverting to ignorance and privilege as the people of piltover historically have. viktor returning to his childhood home. jayce getting closer to the magic that saved him as a child. and jinx finding powder again through isha. i wonder how far this reversion will go. I am absolutely certain that the firey orange scene with jinx we see for just a moment in the trailer will directly parallel the firey orange fight between vander and silco. you have to go back all the way to the points in which the cycle began. it has to be broken at the very beginning. silco, stabbing vander in the back, vander drowning silco. i think vi and jinx will repeat this very same fight, as history always repeats itself, and they will choose to continue the cycle into something never ending, or breaking it at its very core.

sky not being a guilt tripping device used by the arcane was kinda cool? my theory is that she's part of the hive mind and since she mattered a lot to viktor (both in his developpment and as a person) it makes sense that he saw her, he's not exactly a "working alone" kinda guy and loved her ideas soo

Disorganized thoughts on Arcane Act 2:

When Vi lost Powder, she spent years believing that her little sister was dead. Now Jinx, after taking the big sister role for Isha (& working through her own trauma in the process) has also experienced the loss of a little sister.

Watching a small child willingly make the choice to sacrifice her own life, to protect her caretaker, was absolutely devastating & really puts into perspective how awful the living conditions in Zaun are. I wish we’d gotten to know more about Isha but I guess that’s a part of her tragedy.

Also Vi losing everyone she loved & then being reject by the last person who cared about her, resulting in a period of violent self destruction & frequent episodes of depressive psychosis in which she hallucinated her lost loved ones..? Sounds kinda familiar…

This was pointed out already but Cait choosing to betray her powerful imperialist allies? Helping Vi & Jinx save their dad after Jinx killed her mom??? I love this woman

I believe in the Vander, Jinx, Isha, Vi, Cait, AND SEVIKA found family. They’re not done collecting new members

Viktor & Sky were together & inseparable after his apotheosis??? While Jayce didn’t have Mel to bounce ideas off of like they usually do together. My poor guy was alone with the sentient acid mushrooms invading his mind ofc he was gonna do smth drastic.

I was supposed to be busy this week/end so I wouldn't have time to watch act 2, but my friend spoiled me unintentionally and it dragged me into watching it in bits between my work. I have thoughts about it.

Act 2 exposes some more of the corny dialog that I had an issue with in act 1, but ups it to MCU territory by having quips and just incredibly played out, on the nose, and cliche moments

Vander's letter to Silco was such an obvious "It's addressed to X, but it's really about Y" moments in the series it was so heavy handed and feankly unnecessary.

"You really are a" "Big stinking hero!" It was corny but made me laugh only because it was Sevika and Jinx. Isha, a literal plot device dropped into Jinx's narrative not three minutes old, obvious death flags from the start, had no speaking lines, and only existed to dangle the idea of hope in front of Jinx only to snatch it away in the most obvious writing decision ever.

Caitlyn and Vi being reunited was bland as fuck like good for you guys I guess but, again, there is so little justification on why they're suddenly back on good terms again. Like I get it she loves Vi, she wants to help her save what's left of her family, but literally why did she jumped to agreeing?? Remember when she found out Jinx was Vi's sister? Remember the hesitation?

Vi told Cait that her dad was the savage monster that killed 20+ Enforcers at Stillwater and she hardly even reacts she just goes along with this plan of Vi's. Ambessa has been helping her secure "peace" for Piltover in their campaign against Zaun for months now. Sure there were seeds of doubt and mistrust, but nothing so grand that it would automatically turn traitor on her. Especially since episode 4 has her defending Ambessa, saying they've only gotten this far because of her.

Not to mention the total 180 from "Zaun's animalistic savagery knows no bounds" to "my girlfriend needs to save her furry father and I need to help her" The only logic pathways we get to answer these lingering questions are weak at best and unsatisfactory at worst.

The Vi and Jinx reconciliation was rushed imo as well, but I've always said that you could understand that because we've seen for ourselves that no matter what Jinx has always loved Vi. And Vi spent seven years of her life thinking about nothing other than getting back to Powder/Jinx. Their rush to forgive one another is rushed but the path to getting there is solid enough that you don't really mind it.

Sevika can never catch a break, hardly in this act but that's okay I still love her. It was good seeing Jinx step into her cqc bag and utilize her shimmer to gain advantages in fights. Caitlyn sparring with Ambessa was great and she looked so pretty. I was happy to have Viktor and Jinx interact at least once, their dynamic was exactly what I imagined, they'd be best friends.

Vi's butt looks great in those leather pants. Corny as it was, Jinx and Sevika's moments are the best part of this act. Jinx trying to calm down Vander during his rampage seemed really stupid and I can't really get behind the logic of it. She should have been running to secure Isha and get her somewhere safe, not try to calm down your rampaging father who's spitting up lava. Like girl you couldn't beat him in his base form, what the fuck do you think you're going to do now?

Singed being a mix of Corrin Reveck and his League self makes sense in the case that giving him Reveck's daughter humanizes Singed to a better degree, but it still feels kind of weird. Man doesn't look like Reveck in the slightest he is straight up just Singed. Identity theft.

It's also very silly to me that Ambessa is doing so little in searching for her daughter, like it's kind of weak that you have all the smoke for Piltover and Zaun but a cult snatched your kid up under your nose and you're sitting on your hands because you assume you can't beat them without lightning in a bottle.

Ekko, Jayce, and Heimerdinger are hardly in season 2 which isn't too surprising. Ekko and Heimerdinger don't have much of a presence in season 1 past a certain point anyway. I know Ekko's time breaking abilities are about to help "fix" this mess to a heavy degree but I'm not going to like it at all. Jinx, once again on the verge of suicide, and Ekko swoops in like "I care about you :(" mind you, he has been presumed dead for months now and Jinx gave next to no fucks about it or the Firelights. Vi still doesn't know that Ekko even survived season 1. Mans is not loved by these two at all. Especially not enough to warrent any sort of relationship with Jinx, I'd literally kill myself it's such a bad writing move especially this late in the final season.

Caitlyn's spec ops really didn't matter in the slightest. Shoutout Maddie for getting the hexstrap but you also do not function as a character. Also her accent was a little off to me in act 2, idk why.

All said and done, act 2 does some things better than act 1, and some things worse. I think it just shows how much those 10+ years of work and rewrites that season 1 got was incredibly necessary because season 2 can not match up by any measure other than it looks good and it's Arcane. But that's about it. I don't really think I'll be watching act 3.
